Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Public Sector Pay.

Richard Bruton

Question:

257 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of pay settlements reached with groups within the public sector, including for example those groups in the ESB, Aer Lingus and child care workers; and if these settlements were within the terms of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness. [13816/01]

I am satisfied developments during the currency of the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness – PPF – in relation to the pay of groups in areas of the public sector for which I am primarily responsible have been within the terms of the programme. Settlements with groups within the commercial State bodies, including ESB and Aer Lingus, are, in the first instance, matters for those bodies themselves in the context of the programme.

Settlements have been reached for groups in a small number of cases comprehended by the Programme for Competitiveness and Work – PCW – and on other outstanding issues which predated the PPF such as the craft analogue review. The recommendations of the independent review body on higher remuneration in the public sector are also being implemented. The settlement for child care workers resulted from a review entered into under the P.C.W.
