Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Pharmacy Regulations.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

288 Ms Clune asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 216 of 3 April 2001, he can give additional information as to the action he is taking to ensure the legal issues he referred to in the final paragraph of the reply are resolved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13629/01]

I am at present in consultation with my colleagues, the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Deputy Harney, and the Minister for Finance, Deputy McCreevy, concerning amendments to the Health (Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement) Regulations, 1996, to meet the terms of a settlement agreed on foot of judicial review proceedings. In addition, following the recently published OECD report on regulatory review, the Government has promised a speedy review of the Health (Community Pharmacy Contractor Agreement) Regulations, 1996. Pending completion of that review, it would be premature to amend the regulations providing for the mutual recognition of pharmacy qualifications.
