Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Orthodontic Service.

John Perry

Question:

304 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will approve an orthodontic initiative for the North-Western Health Board similar to the approval given to the Eastern Regional Health Authority for a grant-in-aid scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13770/01]

The provision of orthodontic services is the responsibility of the health boards in the first instance. The proposal from the Eastern Regional Health Authority for a grant-in-aid scheme was approved by my Department. The scheme will operate on a pilot basis in the Northern Area Health Board for 12 months at which time its operation will be reviewed.
