Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Enforcement of Tobacco Regulations.

Question:

305 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will ensure that the regulations prohibiting smoking on Dublin Bus are enforced. [13845/01]

Smoking is prohibited on all public service vehicles owned or operated by Dublin Bus. Under Dublin Bus by-laws, authorised persons, including inspectors, drivers and conductors, have powers to enforce regulations in this area. Breaches of the regulations should be brought to the attention of the authorised persons.

It is in everyone's interest that the prohibition on smoking on bus services is observed to ensure protection of passengers against the harmful effects of environmental tobacco smoke.
