Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Housing Grants.

Question:

327 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the grants which are be available for a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 who wants to build an extension to the back of a derelict house. [13665/01]

While there are no grants generally available for building extensions to houses, there are a number of targeted options currently available to assist groups like lower-income households to secure necessary improvements works to their houses. These include the local authority house improvement loan scheme and the improvement works in lieu of local authority housing scheme. An integrated area plan for the Coombe-Liberties area was prepared by Dublin Corporation in the context of the urban renewal scheme 1999. This IAP targeted five sub-areas within the greater Coombe-Liberties area and was assessed by the expert panel established to assess the proposals of all participating local authorities. A range of incentives was recommended by the panel for each of the five sub-areas and I accepted all of these recommendations. A property may have been designated for either residential refurbishment or new build purposes, or both, and it is possible that a particular property may attract refurbishment incentives only. In this case the conversion of a part of the designated property into a bathroom would attract the refurbishment incentives. More specific information, including application forms where appropriate, is available from Dublin Corporation.
