Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Court Accommodation.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

410 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the regional court office will be established in Monaghan; the number of personnel which will be employed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14016/01]

It is the policy of the Courts Service, as stated in the Courts Service Strategic Plan, 2000-2003, to put in place regional management arrangements to facilitate the devolution of functions and budgets. I welcome this policy which is in keeping with Government policy. I stress that decisions in relation to location and staffing levels of any such regional management offices are a matter for the board of the Courts Service. I understand, however, that the Courts Service intends to establish a regional office in Monaghan in the latter half of this year. I also understand that the office will have a staff of three – a regional manager and two support staff.
