Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Defence Forces Recruitment.

David Stanton

Question:

130 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence the appointments and vacancies in the engineering officer branch of the Naval Services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13810/01]

The establishment for marine engineer officers in the Naval Service is 32 and the current strength is 15. A further seven – ensigns and cadets – are in training.

A competition for the appointment of marine engineer officers to the Naval Service was advertised at the end of last year. Arising from this competition, a further marine engineer officer is due to take up duty on 18 July 2001.

Applications are still being accepted and the military authorities are considering re-advertising the competition in the near future.
