Written Answers - Overseas Missions.

Seán Power

Question:

131 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of the fact that the last Irish battalion to serve in the Lebanon will finish their tour of duty in 2001, he will arrange an appropriate event to mark the enormous contribution made by the Defence Forces in peacekeeping duties throughout the world. [13497/01]

I am advised by the military authorities that a project team has been appointed to undertake a military study to examine the feasibility of such a project and to make recommendations as to a suitable format for such an event. The team convened on 1 May 2001 and I understand that its report will be available in the near future.
