Vol. 536 No. 2

Written Answers - Appointments to State Boards.

Question:

146 Dr. Upton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment when a director will be appointed to Science Foundation Ireland. [13855/01]

Science Foundation Ireland operates as an intrinsic part of Forfás, the body in which the legal powers of the State for the development of industry, science and technology have been vested. Accordingly, the activities involved in promoting and funding relevant areas of basic research are undertaken by the staff of Forfás.

Forfás has allocated and recruited a number of additional staff to work on these activities. The recruiting of a further person to act as director general for the activities involved is currently under way and is expected to be completed shortly, at which point an announcement will be made.
