Question:

150 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the number of foreign ships brought to port by the Naval Service in 1999, 2000 and during the course of 2001 for alleged illegal fishing operations; the ships seized and their nationality; and the prosecutions which have as a consequence been instituted. [13880/01]

A total of 43 foreign vessels were detained by the Naval Service for suspected fisheries offences in the period from the beginning of 1999 to end March 2001 resulting in 31 prosecutions. The nationalities of these vessels are in the following tables:
