Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Austin Deasy

Question:

128 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason Ardmore, County Waterford did not receive any funding under the recent allocation under the Fishery Harbours Development Programme, 2001; and if he will make an additional allocation for proposals submitted by Waterford County Council. [14885/01]

The position in relation to Ardmore Harbour remains as outlined in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 150 dated 20 March 2001.

Question:

129 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason Tramore, County Waterford did not receive any funding under the recent allocation under the Fishery Harbours Development Programme, 2001; and if he will make an additional allocation for proposals submitted by Waterford County Council. [14886/01]

The pier at Tramore is owned by Waterford County Council and development and maintenance of the facilities is the responsibility of the local authority in the first instance.

In 2000 my Department provided funding of £29,893.41 towards the cost of repairs to the seawall at Lady Elizabeth's Cove, Tramore. The county council advised last August that it was commissioning a technical analysis to be carried out on the pier scour protection requirements and a cost benefit analysis of pier development proposals. The Department has not yet received these studies or any related investment proposals.

Question:

130 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason Dungarvan, County Waterford did not receive any funding under the recent allocation under the Fishery Harbours Development Programme, 2001; and if he will make an additional allocation for proposals submitted by Waterford County Council. [14887/01]

A feasibility study on the development of Dungarvan Harbour was forwarded to my Department by the urban district council in 1998. This study focused primarily on developing the harbour to service marine tourism and leisure facilities.

In March 2001 my Department received from the urban district council an updated report which refers to urgently required remedial works to the quay wall at Davitt's Quay. The estimated cost of these is £100,000.

The question of funding these remedial works is being considered in the context of the funding available.
