Vol. 536 No. 5

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Equipment.

David Stanton

Question:

144 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Defence if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 75 of 15 May 2001, he will outline the systems in use to issue clothing and other kit to reserve Defence Force officers and other ranks respectively; if each member is required to sign for any clothing and kit received; if changes have occurred in the systems used in recent years; the plans he has to include reserve Defence Force personnel in the inventory management system; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14910/01]

Clothing and kit are issued to members of the Reserve based on prescribed entitlements as per administrative instructions. All members of the Reserve are required to sign for receipt of clothing and kit etc. The system has been changed from a manual recording to a computerised system over the course of the last four years. I am advised that certain technical administrative difficulties may attend the issue of requisites to Reserve officers specifically, in that these personnel are not yet individually entered into the computerised personnel management system as individual data records. However, clothing and kit continues to be issued to Reserve officers as required.
