Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Tobacco-Related Diseases.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

220 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children if there has been any progress in relation to implementation of the recommendation of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children concerning the application of Statute of Limitations 1957 and 1991 to litigants against the tobacco industry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15687/01]

The many procedural and legal matters that arise with regard to possible litigation against the tobacco industry are still being assessed. Given the complex and major law issues involved, it is not possible to indicate when this assessment will be completed.
