Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Finucane

Question:

279 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding sewerage schemes in County Limerick which have been sanctioned by his Department. [15679/01]

Details of the major water and sewerage schemes approved for County Limerick are set out in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library. In addition, block grant allocations amounting to £950,000 were notified to Limerick County Council in February under the devolved rural water programme, which provides for small public water and sewerage schemes and group schemes.

Question:

280 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will sanction an extension to the sewerage scheme in Abbeyfeale, County Limerick. [15680/01]

My Department has no formal proposals from Limerick County Council in this case. Abbeyfeale sewerage scheme was included as a longer term objective in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by the council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessment. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002 announced in July. Given the priority rating afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demands and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time.
