Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Asylum Applications.

Enda Kenny

Question:

340 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he is prepared to rescind a deportation order in the case of a person (details supplied) and grant him humanitarian leave to remain here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15711/01]

Jim Higgins

Question:

341 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will rescind the deportation order made against a person (details supplied) whose business was destroyed, his life threatened and who had to flee here in late 1999. [15712/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 340 and 341 together.

A deportation order has not been made in this instance so the revocation of same does not arise.

The person referred to arrived in the State on 21 January 2000. His application for refugee status was refused on 26 June 2000. His application is currently at the appeal stage and a decision in this regard will be made over the coming months.
