416 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 312 of 10 April 2001 and the reference in that reply to the proposed area plan for Adamstown, County Dublin, he will further examine the suggestion of one first level school and one second level school in view of the projection in the area plan for a population in excess of 21,000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has reserved sites in the Adamstown area for a primary and a post-primary school and the question of whether to proceed with the development of these schools is under consideration at present. My Department is currently examining the proposed plan for Adamstown and a meeting has been arranged between officials of my Department, including the local school inspectors, and officials of South Dublin County Council to discuss the matter of school provision in the area. A further site for a primary school has been reserved in the Griffeen/Foxborough area.
My Department has already responded to the demand for primary and post-primary school places in Lucan by approving a number of major school extensions at both levels in the area. It is expected that these measures will significantly alleviate pressure for school places in Lucan in the short term.
417 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 387 of 22 May 2001, he will reply specifically to the request that an inspector call immediately to a primary school (details supplied) in Dublin 5 to determine the location approved prefabs can be built to ensure that this does not conflict with other approved plans for an extension; if this same inspector can view leaks in the school and listen to the case for the segregation of the heating systems when on site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department is currently considering the most efficient and cost effective way of providing improved permanent accommodation at the school in question. The project will also address any problems at the school relating to leaks and the segregation of the heating systems.
An architect from my Department's building unit has previously visited the school and advised on a suitable location for the proposed prefabs. However, I have asked officials of my Department to contact the school authorities to discuss the issue with them. In view of the large number of school building projects currently being processed by my Department, it is not possible at this point to give any indication as to the timetable for the provision of the facilities.
