Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

Denis Naughten

Question:

109 Mr. Naughten asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the cost of claims incurred by an organisation (details supplied) for settling claims against uninsured drivers, for the most recent year available; the number of such drivers involved; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15775/01]

The issue of compulsory insurance and uninsured driving comes under the auspices of the Road Traffic Acts. The Department has no function in monitoring the incidence of uninsured driving.

My responsibility lies in the prudential supervision of insurance companies and in monitoring the cost and availability of insurance.
