Vol. 537 No. 2

Written Answers. - Bord na Móna.

Jack Wall

Question:

133 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if she has received any application from Bord na Mona for the provision of funding for diversification by the board to acting as agents or providing sites for landfill or super dump facilities for recycling or for any other form of refuse recycling; if she has had any discussions with the board in relation to such matters; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15984/01]

I have not received any application of the type referred to in the question and I have not met the board on any such matter. Such funding would be extremely unlikely in any event and would raise State aid issues.

It is normal for State companies to explore various business opportunities and my officials are broadly aware that activities of the type referred to are being considered. Unless and until a formal proposal which requires my approval arises, con sideration of business possibilities is a day-to-day matter for the company.
