Vol. 537 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Accommodation.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

518 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science if the planning process for Clifden Community School, County Galway reached Stage 1 report; if it is proposed to refurbish the existing building or provide a new building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16522/01]

The schedules of accommodation which were recently issued to the school authority of Clifden Community School have been accepted by them, subject to a number of conditions. These conditions are currently being examined by an educationalist in my Department. When this examination is complete the brief for the project can be defined and architectural planning can commence. At that time my Department will be in a position to decide whether a new build or refurbishment is the better option in this case.

John Bruton

Question:

519 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science when he will provide adequate classroom accommodation, an assembly hall, a library, an office, a staff room, a car park and a pull-in facility for parents picking up children at Lismullen National School; and if he will give an assurance that necessary and urgent accommodation will not be delayed by virtue of the fact that there is also a need for school accommodation at Johnstown in the suburbs of Navan town. [16539/01]

In view of the very large number of school building projects being dealt with by my Department at present and the priority to be afforded to such projects, it is not possible at this point to provide a time scale as to when additional permanent accommodation will be provided at the school referred to by the Deputy. The matter will be kept under review.
