Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Silt Removal.

Michael Ring

Question:

183 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if he will instruct the Office of Public Works to remove the silt bank of a river (details supplied) in County Mayo. [17984/01]

The channel in question forms part of the Moy catchment drainage scheme which is maintained by the Office of Public Works under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. The area is accessible to machinery only when the ground is dry and the water levels are very low. My Department will carry out the necessary work this summer if these conditions occur, subject to agreement on timing with the North-Western Regional Fisheries Board.
