Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Arts Policy.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

276 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands if, in the context of her responsibilities for the arts, she has the power to formulate policy; the extent to which she has determined policy in respect of the various art forms for which she is responsible; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18031/01]

The Arts Acts, 1951 and 1973, were enacted prior to the appointment of a Minister with specific responsibility for the Arts and therefore they do not define a role for the Minister of the day with regard to policy formation.
