Vol. 538 No. 3

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Seán Ryan

Question:

277 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his proposals for additional Garda resources in north County Dublin with special reference to Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush, Lusk and Garristown. [17678/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush, Lusk and Garristown Garda stations form Balbriggan district. The current personnel strength of this district, in all ranks, is 53. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that there are nine vehicles allocated to Balbriggan district of which one is currently out of use but will be replaced in the near future. The allocation of vehicles to the Balbriggan district is comparable to other districts of similar size and population.

I am also informed by the Garda authorities that Garda management is satisfied that the arrangements currently in place are adequate in meeting the present policing requirements of the area. The situation will be kept under review and, when additional personnel next become available the needs of Balbriggan district will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
