Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Liam Aylward

Question:

115 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if, further to Par liamentary Question No. 71 of 24 May 2001, regarding the allocation of moneys to an angling club (details supplied) in County Kilkenny, he will review the application in view of the information received from the club. [17807/01]

The Central Fisheries Board, which is responsible for the day to day administration of the tourism angling measure, TAM, 1994 to 1999, informs me that the information contained in my reply to Question No. 71 of 24 May 2001 relating to an application from Goresbridge Angling Club for TAM funding is correct. However, the central board also informs me that in June 1999 a new application was received from Goresbridge Angling Club and that this application was submitted to the TAM management committee for decision in November 1999. The board confirms that this application was not approved by the TAM management committee.

In my reply on 24 May 2001 I also stated that the Southern Regional Fisheries Board informs me that the Southern Trout and Coarse Fisheries Society made an allocation of £9,364 to the Goresbridge Angling Club in 2000. The southern board now informs me that this information is incorrect and was based on a misinterpretation by it of the accounts of the society. The chairman of the society has been contacted by my Department and he confirms that the club received no funding from the society during 2000. He states that the sums recorded in the society's accounts represent the cost of fisheries development works undertaken by the club in 2000. The accounts have been submitted by the society to my Department in support of the society's claim for Exchequer funding. This claim is currently being processed by my Department in the normal way.
