Vol. 538 No. 4

Written Answers. - Architectural Heritage.

John McGuinness

Question:

102 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress on the dispute at Kilkenny Castle; if the inconsistency regarding the rate of pay can be explained; if there is a lack of control and awareness within the Dúchas personnel department regarding this problem; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18221/01]

Last week, officials of my Department held detailed discussions with the trade union representing employees at Kilkenny Castle, concerning a range of local issues. On conclusion of the talks, both sides acknowledged that significant progress had been achieved. Contacts will be maintained and further talks are planned. The rates of pay that are applied are entirely consistent with those negotiated by the central negotiating body, the National Joint Industrial Council for State Employees. No issue of control or awareness is relevant to this consideration.
