Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rolling Stock.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

126 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the degree to which requirements are met by Iarnród Éireann in the matter of rolling stock safety standards; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [18995/01]

The responsibility for ensuring the safety of railway operations is a matter for Iarnród Éireann and is not one in which I have a function. I am advised by Iarnród Éireann that all new rolling stock is purchased to current internationally recognised safety standards. Older rolling stock was purchased to internationally recognised safety standards which pertained at the time of purchase.

Questions Nos. 127 to 130, inclusive, answered with Question No. 125.
