Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hearing Impairment Claims.

Billy Timmins

Question:

135 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Defence the implications of a successful claim for deafness compensation on the promotion prospects of a member of the Defence Forces; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18937/01]

The military authorities have advised that the promotion of members of the Defence Forces is regulated by the Minister under sections 45 and 84 of the Defence Acts, 1954 to 1998. The promotions of officers and men of the P.D.F. are governed by Defence Force Regulations A15 and A10 respect ively. There are no direct implications on the promotional prospects of a member of the Defence Forces arising from a successful claim for deafness compensation.
