Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Creed

Question:

228 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the shortcomings and difficulty at Mallow General Hospital, with periods when there is no permanent radiologist or consultant anaesthetist available, no emergency laboratory standby, no third physician and surgeon available for cover, X-rays taking four to six weeks to be reported and overcrowding of wards; if he will provide the necessary resources to the Southern Health Board to resolve these difficulties; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18599/01]

The provision of services in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Southern Health Board. I have asked the board's chief executive officer to look into the issues raised by the Deputy and to reply directly to him.
