Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

311 Mr. N. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will review the provision of funding approval for group schemes with a view to increasing the level of funding. [18777/01]

In March 2000, I increased the grant levels available for new group water schemes, and the upgrading of existing substandard schemes, from 75% of the approved cost, subject to a cost limit of £1,600 per house, to 85% of the approved cost, subject to a cost limit of £6,000 per house. Grants amounting to 100% of the approved cost are available for the provision of essential water disinfection and treatment equipment in privately sourced group water schemes.

I will review the level of group sewerage scheme grants following assessment of a pilot programme being implemented by the National Rural Water Monitoring Committee to examine new approaches to meeting the waste water collection and treatment needs of rural communities.
