Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Question:

361 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí who are employed in the Clonmel area; the number who are deployed as community gardaí in a large variety of housing estates; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18614/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that the personnel strength of Clonmel Garda station, as at 20 June 2001, is 40 – all ranks. One member of garda rank has been appointed to community policing and will be operational when he completes a basic training programme. I am further informed that the situation will be kept under review and when additional personnel next become available the needs of Clonmel will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.
