Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Alan Shatter

Question:

362 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will establish a Garda station in Knocklyon, County Dublin, to meet the needs of the expanding community and to relieve the burden currently imposed on gardaí stationed in Rathfarnham and Tallaght Garda stations. [18657/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that there are no plans to establish a Garda station in Knocklyon. I am further informed that Rathfarnham and Tallaght Garda stations make up the district of Tallaght. The manpower strength – all ranks – of Tallaght district as at 1 January for each of the past four years and currently is as set out hereunder.

The above figures represent an increase of 13.8% in the strength of Tallaght district between 1 January 1998 and 22 June 2001.
The situation will be kept under review and when additional manpower next becomes available the needs of Tallaght district will be fully considered within the overall context of the needs of Garda districts throughout the country.

John Perry

Question:

363 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he is satisfied that there are adequate interview facilities, closed circuit television and a canteen in Ballymote Garda station in County Sligo; the plans he has to refurbish the station; the reasons no decision has been made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18662/01]

The accommodation and other requirements at Ballymote Garda station fall to be addressed as part of the ongoing review of Garda accommodation by the Garda authorities. When this review is completed, Ballymote's requirements will be addressed in the appropriate manner.
