Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

366 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans he has to reorganise and upgrade the Garda headquarters in Monaghan town; the plans he has, if any, to remove some of the existing responsibilities from Monaghan; the situation regarding the future of the divisional headquarters; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18846/01]

Monaghan is a divisional headquarters station and there are no plans to upgrade this station or to remove any of its existing responsibilities at this time. I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that the Commissioner is examining the overall issue of Garda regional, divisional and district boundaries with a view to increasing efficiency, enhancing Garda response and ensuring the cost effective use of Garda resources. Any proposals the Commissioner may have in this regard will be considered by my Department.
