Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

John Perry

Question:

412 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will waive or reduce the fees for the extension of the school bus for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18648/01]

The family in question reside 0.7 miles from the route of service to the school. As a rule, primary school transport routes are planned so that, as far as possible, no eligible child will have more than 1.5 miles to travel to a pick-up point. Pupils living off the main route of a service are generally expected to make their own way, or to be brought to convenient pick-up points along the main route.

In this case, the family applied to have the service extended and paid for by themselves. In the circumstances, it is not possible for my Department to waive or reduce the cost involved.

Question:

413 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will authorise an extension of the school bus service for a person (details supplied) in County Sligo; if he will ensure that the families are accommodated as the bus was changed to facilitate them; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18649/01]

A report has been requested from Bus Éireann regarding school transport provision for the pupil in question. The Deputy will be advised of the outcome as soon as the report is received and assessed.
