Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Derek McDowell

Question:

456 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason for the delay in providing a report of an educational psychologist in respect of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5; and if he will ensure the report is obtained in sufficient time to allow for appropriate arrangements to be made for the new school year. [18933/01]

The child referred to by the Deputy was originally assessed by an agency other than the National Educational Psychological Service, NEPS. A psychologist from NEPS has been involved with the case in recent months with a view to accessing an appropriate placement for the student in a post-primary school. I am pleased to be able to inform the Deputy that a place has now been offered to the student concerned and recommendations made by the NEPS psychologist for additional teaching resources have been accepted by my Department. It is envisaged that a full psychological assessment of this student will be undertaken during the next school year.
