Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

104 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the degree to which he has achieved progress in negotiations with Kildare County Council on the identification of various locations at which severe flooding has taken place in north Kildare in the past four years; if he has sought or received reports from the local authority in this regard; if he has issued directions or instructions with a view to action to alleviate the problem before winter 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19311/01]

The Commissioners of Public Works have been in further correspondence with Kildare County Council in relation to reports on various locations which are prone to flooding in the county. They have requested the reports in question or an indication of dates when the reports might be available. On receipt of the relevant information, the commissioners will liaise with the council to determine what flood alleviation measures might be considered for the areas identified. No commitments can be entered into on the implementation of works until the material requested has been fully examined.
