Vol. 539 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Retention.

John McGuinness

Question:

182 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 475 of 15 May 2001, he will state the progress made regarding the submission made by St. Brigid's secondary school, Goresbridge, County Kilkenny; and if he will expedite a reply. [19249/01]

The planning section of my Department is currently examining the proposal on behalf of the school in question to become a community college under the aegis of County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee.

This proposal was discussed in considerable detail at a lengthy meeting some time ago between officials of the planning section of my Department and representatives of the board of management and the VEC. There has also been informal contact in the interim.

Consideration of the application is at an advanced stage and, when completed, the matter will be submitted to me for decision. A formal written response will issue to all parties as soon as I have determined the appropriate course of action.
