Vol. 539 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mobility Management Plans.

Question:

165 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the steps he has taken to implement the mobility management plans for staff commuting to their Departments; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19459/01]

In September 1999, my Department was among six organisations that participated in a research project organised by the Dublin Transportation Office and other partners in Ireland and the UK, under the EU SAVE II Programme. The main outcome of the research project was the publication by the Dublin Transportation Office in March this year of The Route to Sustainable Commuting: An Employers' Guide to Mobility Management Plans. I am arranging to have a copy of the guide placed in the Oireachtas Library.

The employers' guide is intended to assist organisations to identify and implement measures to reduce demands on the car for staff commuting and other work related journeys. The guide, together with the information accumulated as a result of participation in the research project, is under consideration in my Department with a view to the development of a mobility management plan as part of a formal environmental management system for the Department.
