Written Answers. - Care of the Elderly.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

131 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Health and Children the proposals he has for a carer's payment for long-term home care of the elderly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20108/01]

Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children (Dr. Moffatt): It is the intention of my colleague, the Minister for Health and Children, to bring proposals to Government in relation to whatever additional measures may be necessary arising from the expenditure review of the nursing home subvention scheme, taking into account the Ombudsman's report, together with the experience gained from the operation of the scheme since its inception in 1993.
