On Wednesday, 12 September 2001, the Taoiseach requested me, by let ter under Standing Order 24, to summon Dáil Éireann to meet today, 18 September 2001, at 12 noon for the purpose of taking statements on atrocities in the United States of America. The business of today's special sitting is confined to the subject matter set out in the summons. I now call on the Taoiseach to make a proposal relating to the statements.
Business of Dáil.
I propose that, under Standing Order 24, the business for today shall be: No. 1, statements on atrocities in the United States of America. It is proposed, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders, that the statements on atrocities in the United States of America shall, if not previously concluded, be brought to a conclusion after 90 minutes and the following arrangements shall apply: (1) the following Members shall be called upon in the following sequence to make a statement not exceeding the time indicated in each case: the Taoiseach, 20 minutes; the leader of the Fine Gael Party, 20 minutes; the leader of the Labour Party, 20 minutes; the leader of the Progressive Democrats, 15 minutes; the Green Party, together with rep resentatives of the Independent Deputies, ten minutes, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in conclusion, five minutes.
Is the proposal for dealing with statements on atrocities in the United States of America agreed to? Agreed.
