432 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of weeks the Regional Orthopaedic Unit at Navan General Hospital has been closed since the beginning of 2001; the reasons for the closure; the steps the health board is taking to ensure that treatment is expedited for the increased number of patients on the waiting list; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of services, including orthopaedic services, at Navan General Hospital rests with the North-Eastern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the Chief Executive Officer of the Board to investigate the matter referred to by the Deputy and to respond to him directly.
