Question:743 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the changes being made to the essential repair grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22247/01]

Significant improvements have been made to the terms and conditions of the essential repairs grant scheme in recent years. The maximum grant has been increased in three stages since 1997 from £1,800 to £7,500. The recoupment rate from my Department to local authorities in respect of grants paid has also increased, from 50% to two-thirds, and
eligibility for the grant has been extended to households in urban areas. My Department will continue to keep the terms and conditions of the essential repairs grants scheme under review.
