Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Liam Lawlor

Question:

324 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 156 of 6 March 2001, he will indicate the way in which he intends to proceed in respect of qualification for mobility allowance in the context of the next budget; if he will continue to allow those entitled to the Disabled Driver and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Scheme to also avail of mobility allowance, or if he intends to terminate this entitlement. [23209/01]

The eligibility criteria for mobility allowance have not changed since my response to the Deputy in Parliamentary Question No. 156 dated 6 March 2001. My Department is currently undertaking an examination of the disability related allowances which come under its aegis and are administered by the health boards, including mobility allowance. Any changes to the scheme proposed will be considered in the light of available resources. There are no plans to remove entitlement to the lower rate of mobility allowance from eligible people who benefit from the disabled drivers and disabled passengers – tax concessions – scheme.
