Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funding Application.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

449 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received an application by an organisation (details supplied) in County Meath for funding; if so, the stage the application has reached; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22731/01]

I understand that the Deputy may be referring to an application for the recognition of a new primary school in County Meath with effect from September 2001. In that case, the applicants were unable to identify suitable temporary accommodation to allow the school to commence operations in the current school year and, accordingly, recognition could not be granted. The applicants were advised accordingly and were informed that it is open to them to make a fresh application for recognition with effect from September 2002. Identification of suitable temporary accommodation for the purpose of setting up a new school, regardless of category, is the responsibility of the individual school promoters. This responsibility remains until the school has demonstrated its viability and the Department is in a position to provide alternative accommodation.
