Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Third Level Capital Provision.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

174 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science his response to the findings of a recent USI study which highlights a serious lack of computers in third level colleges; and the plans he has to tackle this problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22994/01]

My Department has an annual provision to address on a priority basis the capital needs of all third level colleges, including the provision of equipment. Each college is invited to prioritise its requirements. I expect that the individual colleges will take on board the findings of the recent USI study in drawing up their priority capital works programme for 2002.

My Department's building unit will continue to work closely with colleges to ensure that all priorities are addressed in the context of available funding.
