Vol. 541 No. 5

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Ulick Burke

Question:

245 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will review the policing policy in rural areas and restore a Garda presence in rural stations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23384/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that a review of Garda structures and service deliveries is continuing as part of the Garda strategic management initiative process. Management consultants are assisting in this review which is examining policies surrounding community and rural policing and more efficient and effective ways of delivering local policing services.
