Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

238 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if additional suckler cow quota will be allocated to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23849/01]

The person named applied for an allocation of suckler cow quota from the 2002 national reserve under category A. This category is reserved for farmers under 35 years of age who will apply for the suckler cow premium scheme for the first time in 2002. As the person named has applied for the suckler cow premium scheme for the past number of years, he will not be a first time applicant in 2002 and does not, therefore, qualify for an allocation of quota from this reserve under that category. His application will be examined under the other priority categories but it is not possible to say at this stage what the outcome of that examination will be. All applicants will be notified of the result of their applications by the end of November.
