Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Hospital Doctors.

Bernard Allen

Question:

340 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has to appoint an additional 50 to 70 consultants around the country to ease pressure on consultants working in one on one and one on two rotas. [24295/01]

My Department is aware of the situation in relation to consultants who work one in one and one in two rotas. The necessity to appoint additional consultants to address the issues involved will be examined in the context of the work undertaken by the national task force on medical manpower. The question of introducing interim arrangements to relieve the more demanding rotas, in advance of those deliberations, is currently under consideration.
