Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Enterprise Liability.

Bernard Allen

Question:

349 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will make a statement on the implications of the recent decision of the Medical Protection Society that, following the enterprise liability scheme, it does not intend to cover private practice and obstetrics. [24304/01]

I understand the position attributed to the Medical Protection Society in a recent newspaper report does not accurately reflect the views of the society on the scope of cover and services which it intends to offer to its members in Ireland following the introduction of enterprise liability. My Department has held a series of meetings with the Medical Protection Society and the Medical Defence Union on the package of services which doctors will continue to need from them under the new arrangements.
