Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

372 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has received an application from Meath County Council for funding (details supplied); and if his attention has been drawn to the condition of this road; when he will make an allocation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23763/01]

The maintenance and improvement of non-national roads in their areas is a matter for individual local authorities to be funded from their own resources supplemented by State grants provided by my Department. The initial selection and prioritisation of projects to be funded under the various non-national road grant categories is also a matter for individual local authorities.

Meath County Council recently submitted a multi-annual restoration programme for the 2002-05 period to my Department which includes this stretch of roadway. I will announce the 2002 non-national road grant allocations early next year.
