Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Paul Bradford

Question:

456 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of gardaí employed in active service in Waterford city and county in each of the years from 1997 to 2000. [23990/01]

I am informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas, that the county of Waterford is policed by three of the five districts in the division of Waterford-Kilkenny. The combined strength – all ranks – of these three districts as at 31 December for each of the years 1997 to 2000 inclusive is as follows:

Years

Strength

1997

207

1998

218

1999

226

2000

223

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that Garda divisional, district and sub-district boundaries do not correlate with county boundaries.
