Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Complaints Board.

Dan Neville

Question:

472 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the comments of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors in relation to the annual report for 1999 of the Garda Síochána Complaints Board; his further views on whether the report is detrimental to the morale of the Garda Síochána; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24359/01]

I am aware that certain comments regarding the 1999 Annual Report of the Garda Síochána Complaints Board have appeared in Garda News which is published by the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors. The inclusion of specific material in the reports of the Garda Síochána Complaints Board is a matter for the board which is, under the Garda Síochána (Complaints) Act, 1986, independent in the exercise of its functions.
